Q & A with Letter of the Week Winner Eugene Chan

When and why did you become a Man United fan?
As far back as I can remember, I started supporting Manchester United in the 1992-1993 season. That was a special year being the first season of the Premier League and for United to finally be crowned champions after a long 26 year wait.
Obviously I didn’t know that then but I remember slowly following them on television with my family, attracted by their spirit and their will to always play attractive football. There was one more reason why that season was special. That year, the ‘King’ arrived – Eric Cantona joined United and the revolution started. (more…)

Question of the Week (Peaceful Big Four?)

HI all,

THE POSTMAN’S QUESTION OF THE WEEK: Is it true what Roy Keane says, that the battles among the EPL’s Big Four these days lack a blood-and-guts Gladiator-like feel?

Cheers

Which of Fergie’s old boys is the best manager?

ROY Keane has returned to football last night (Singapore time), after being appointed manager of Championship side Ipswich.

The former Manchester United captain will now attempt to repeat with Ipswich what he did as manager of Sunderland at the end of the 06/07 season – to bring the club to the glittering lights (not to mention the financial riches) of the Premier League.

With the appointment Keane rejoins the ranks of former United players or coaching staff who have played under Sir Alex Ferguson and then went on to manage their own clubs.

Among them are Mark Hughes, Carlos Queiroz, Steve Bruce and – who can forget – Steve McClaren.

Who is the best manager among all these ex-United men who have learned under arguably the most successful British club manager in history?

Will Tevez stay or go?

CARLOS Tevez has put his future at risk by lashing out on suggestions that he has rejected an offer with Manchester United. (Read here)

“I didn’t like him (Ferguson) saying I didn’t like the offer I was made because neither my agent nor me were given one,” he was quoted as saying. “I want to stay but the club have not made any offer. I’ve been waiting for them for a year and a half.”

More ominously, he added: “If I have to quit the club, I want to quit on good terms. Now all clubs are on an equal footing. If a club comes to me and offers me a five-year deal, I will accept it for peace of mind.”

THE POSTMAN LIM SAY HENG says: Throughout this whole contract saga, Tevez has been hitting the right notes, maintaining his silence over the wrangle and reiterating his desire to stay with the English and European champions.

But it is this little hint of frustration that might see his future at Old Trafford cut short. After all, Sir Alex Ferguson is not one to suffer public criticism from his own players.

Just look at the recent list of ex-players who spoke out – Ruud van Nistelrooy, Jaap Stam and Roy Keane, they all found themselves shown the exit faster than you can say “flying tea cup”. (more…)
