Ghim Pheng’s ode to Jose Mourinho

Filed under: Uncategorized — thetnppostman @ 3:41 pm

They say imitation is the best form of flattery, and while Jose Mourinho may no longer be at Stamford Bridge, our Ng Ghim Pheng sent us this video, mimicking The Special One at his best before last season started. We made him dig it up again, since he – like Ladylala Chong Chun Lian – is working as a temporary paginator at The New Paper now. If you out there, have an ode to Luiz Felipe Scolari or your favourite team, e-mail us at tnppostman@gmail.com the link to your video hosted on any site like YouTube etc.

Enjoy.

Weekend Question (Samba on our sunny shores)

Filed under: Uncategorized — thetnppostman @ 12:01 am

RONALDINDHO, Pato, Anderson and Jo. Brazilians that you have seen countless times on television in the seasons past. And now they are right here on our shores, preparing to win the only gold medal that arguably the world’s best football nation is eligible to win but never managed to garner.

This week, The Postman’s Weekend Question is not really a query per se, but more of a request for all you football fans out there.

Given a chance, which Brazilian player from the Olympic squad would you love to talk to, and what would you say to him?

Tell us, in not more than 50 words, by clicking on “comments” below the headline.

Cheers,

Lim Say Heng

This is not exactly that new, but I just found the clip on youtube again.

They’re like Ronaldinho at his very best.

Now if only the Brazilian can replicate that at Milan…

Weekend Question (Drogba: Going, going, gone?)

THE spotlight is on Chelsea again, as star striker Didier Drogba announced that he will make a decision on his club future by 26 Jul.

He had previously launched a scathing attack on the way that the Blues handled Jose Mourinho’s departure and made known his desire to leave the club after that.

Barcelona, AC Milan and Inter Milan are said to be interested in signing him, but the Ivory Coast hitman could yet sign a two-year extension to his current contract.

So here’s The Postman’s Weekend Question:

Do you think Didier Drogba will finally up and leave Chelsea, or will he stay and be part of Scolari’s new-look Chelsea, and why?

Tell us, in not more than 200 words, by clicking on “comments” below the headline.

Cheers,

Question of the Week (Which player would the clubs miss most?)

Weekend Question (Should Frank stay or go?)

CALL it deja vu in blue. While the whole world is fixated on Ronaldo’s transfer tango, Chelsea has been grappling with Inter Milan to keep vice-captain Frank Lampard.

Lampard is tempted to join former boss Jose Mourinho at the Italian club, but history has shown that Englishmen who succeed in the Serie A are few and far between, even if you are Ian Rush. Staying blue would be stiffer competition for a midfield slot, with Deco’s arrival and the club’s courtship of Kaka.

So here’s The Postman’s Weekend Question:

Should Frank Lampard stay at Chelsea, where his place in the starting lineup is no longer guaranteed, or should he risk it all and move to Mourinho’s Inter? (more…)

Dear Readers,

Ever wondered who adds shine to your letters every week – putting together photos, headlines and colours to your Postman spread every Friday, and the Postman Page every Tuesday?

That would be Chun Lian, who is working with us as a paginator during her university vacation. If you find her really familiar, that’s because she is also our first Female Writer of the Year last year, and remains a regular contributor this season as well.

Better known online by her moniker ladylala, or lala these days, the cheery 21-year-old is fiercely protective of her Postman pages and always strives to make it look better, although her hands are tied when we ask questions that concern personalities such as Fatih Terim and Luiz Felipe Scolari.

“Come up with better questions next time, then I can put better looking guys (on the page),” she said.

(Disclaimer: Lest you guys think that she is not into “old balding men” like those stated above, Chun Lian would like to make it known that “I do like Rafa”. Enough said.)

Cheers,

Say Heng

A long month of exciting football and drama off the pitch has climaxed to a fairytale ending for Spain, who ended their 44-year trophy drought to win Euro08.

More than 13,000 people have logged to The Postman’s website over the past month, with some dazzling us with some of the most passionate, and sometimes creative, comments.

In the spirit of the competition, we have crowned our own “Players of the tournament” after reading through all the comments that you have posted here, as well as through email.

For Euro08, Adrian Lim, a Norwich City fan, is our Male Writer of the Month while Patricia Poh (no prizes for guessing who she rooted for during the tournament) is our Female Writer of the Month.

Stay tuned next week for our write-up on the two winners in our print version, and thank you all for enjoying yourselves here!

Cheers,

Say Heng
